Lutherans Over The Edge Fundraising Event

Lutherans Over The Edge Fundraising Event

I'm excited to say that this past weekend, July 24th, 2017, I was given the fantastic opportunity to photograph, the Lutherans Over The Edge fundraising event! The event was held to raise money for the local Lutheran churches in the Cleveland area! The event took place at the Double Tree hotel in Downtown, Cleveland. 21 excited rappellers raised money to descend the 9 stories from the roof of the hotel to the top of the parking garage below!  The equipment & expertise was provided by Over The Edge USA. A very professional and competant company that specializes in helping non-profits put on these types of fundraisers! The day was full of energy as their were games, families, balloon animals, food and a DJ! It was quite an event! Following are a few images from the day! Check out videos of each rappeller at the Lutherans Over The Edge YouTube Channel. If you want to order a print of someone rappelling please feel free to email me at: joe@joeboylephotography.com

Jeremie, Haiti 2013

Jeremie, Haiti 2013

So I just recently got back from a trip to Jeremie, Haiti. I went with a church, Renew Communities, and it was quite a moving experience... I think the part that hit me the hardest was when we visited patients in the hospital. Now, I don't want to get all heavy handed & Sarah McLachlan on you like she is in her animal cruelty videos, but trust me, it might have been one of the worst places I've ever been... Part of the reason it's so bad because as a hospital you expect that it should deliever certain things: Comfort, rest, attention, healing. While some of these are still true, the gap in this hospital compared to what we know a hospital can provide is staggering... It was very hot, had no electricity and no medication. The most the hospital can provide is a bed, a damp cloth and maybe an IV for fluids... Moving on... We went down there and met up with a group called, Haiti Bible Mission. Mark, the leader, and his family live there about 6 months out of the year

The Rescue Inn

The Rescue Inn

I had the opportunity through a friend of mine, the same friend who told me about the Horse Shelter, to showcase & auction off my photography for "The Rescue Inn." A local (Cleveland) based organization that serves to save dogs from kill shelters & abuse/neglect! The Rescue Inn was raising money for their new shelter and they had dozens of people auction off some great pieces! From photography to pottery to t-shirts to restaurant coupons - there was quite a mix of items going for auction. I entered two photos: 1) A picture of the Cleveland Skyline - sold for $45.00 2) A picture of a stream from the John Muir Trail - sold for $30.00 Both sold for a reasonable price given that it was an auction - together they made $75 for the Rescue Inn - Not Bad! Each photo also had a coupon for 25% off any print that is on this website! I was glad I could help a friend and have an outlet to show people my work. If you're an aspiring photographer I think this is a great way to market

Neigh Day - Horse Rescue Shelter

Neigh Day - Horse Rescue Shelter

I spent this past week in Virginia to visit some friends and alongside of that I was able to join in on a popular event called "Neigh Day" sponsored by Diamonds in the Rough Horse (Equine) Rescue Shelter. The event gathered people from all over the area to see the new horses that are available for adoption. Some of these horses have horrible stories of abuse that would infuriate you and break your heart... Visitors, vendors & sponsors were all invited to help make the event quite a celebration & to raise money for Diamonds in the Rough so they can continue caring for these wonderful animals. So I spent the day there on April 21st and joined in the celebration and festivites! I also auctioned off one of my pictures to help raise money for the organization. It was a good day spending time with friends and making new ones! I was able to capture a "portrait" of this fine horse. How often do you see and a dog & a pig calmly lying next to each other?
